Pedometer!!

I recently got a pedometer just to see how much walking around I do at work. I've been really busy and I feel like I'm always running around like a headless chicken, only having time to sit down for lunch.

My count for Friday (a regular work day) from getting out of bed until I got home was: 8260. I think that's a LOT considering the goal, doctors say, is 10k steps a day. I have yet to program my pedometer to convert the steps into distance.

And then I took my pedometer to Bay to Breakers on Sunday. My count from getting out of bed until I got home was: 31677!!! I was pretty impressed. That means I can sit on my ass for 2 days and still have a healthy heart :P

Laboratory

I had a conversation with someone about working in a lab. Some people just can't stand it and think its very boring. Well, I understand that it's not for some people, but I actually really enjoy it. Being in a lab to me is very therapeutic... I can kind of get into my own little world and block out everything...all my worries, stress, even noise and sounds. I think that's when I'm most relaxed. Lab work could be tedious, but I guess that's what I like about it. Kinda like cooking? Or maybe I'm just an antisocial nerd.

You Know You Are From San Francisco When...

  • You take a bus and are shocked that 2 people are carrying on a conversation in English.
  • Someone says TENDERLOIN - you don't think of steak.
  • You never bother looking at the MUNI line schedule because you know the drivers have never seen it.
  • A really great parking space can move you to tears.
  • You know that anyone wearing shorts in July must be visiting from Ohio.
  • You assume every company offers domestic partner benefits.
  • Your boss runs in "The Bay to Breakers"....and it's not the first time you have seen him/her nude.
  • You are thinking of taking an adult class but you can't decide between yoga, aroma therapy, conversational mandarin or a building your own web site class.
  • You haven't been to Fisherman's Wharf since the first month you moved to SF and you couldn't figure out how to drive to Coit Tower if your life depended on it.
  • You were born somewhere else.
  • Left is right and right is wrong.
  • Your monthly house payments exceed your annual income.
  • You dive under a desk whenever a large truck goes by.
  • You can't find your other earring because your son is wearing it.
  • Your family tree contains "significant others."
  • Your cat has its own psychiatrist.
  • Smoking in your office is not optional.
  • You pack shorts and a T-shirt for skiing in the snow, and a sweater and a wetsuit for the beach.
  • Rainstorms or thunder are the lead story for the local news.
  • Gas costs $1.00 per gallon more than anywhere else in the US.
  • A man gets on the bus in full leather regalia and crotchless chaps. You don't even notice.
  • Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment.
  • You give a "thumbs up" gesture to a car with a "Free Tibet" bumper sticker - and you mean it.
  • When you drive under an underpass - for one moment you think "earthquake".
  • You realize the only Republicans you know are your Aunt and Uncle in Texas.
  • You realize there are far more Rainbow flags in the city than California State Flags.
  • You go to your office manager's baby shower - the parent's are named Judy and Becky.
  • When your church elects a new Bishop who abandoned his family and two young daughters to fulfill his sexual urges with another man.
  • You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from San Francisco.

HAHAHA funny! I think a lot of my friends can appreciate this :)

Book Review #1

I recently finished reading "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards. It took me a while to read it because I kept putting it down.. it's kinda tedious and slow until.. well, the end. The ending was however pretty good. I basically had to force myself to get through some of the slow parts, but I'm glad I did.. I can really relate to the story and some of the characters. I highly recommend it. Some things I learned from the book without spoiling it:
  • Keeping secrets only to yourself is not healthy and can give you a heart attack and kills you.
  • People find out your dirty secrets after you're dead and there's nothing you can do about it.
  • You'll always have connections to your family, even if you've never met them, and some odd events can bring you together in weird ways.
  • You can't stay mad at a dead person.

Ok, I pretty much spoiled the book lol. It sounds depressing, but it's really not.. and the ending really is a happy ending. Go read it!

Oh, btw there's an unofficial book club going with me and a couple of friends. If you'd like to join, let me know :)

Some quality time to come.

Yessss.. it's decided. I'm going to Seattle to see my parents in April!! I haven't seen my mom in 6 months. My dad will be training at the Boeing headquarters there so we're going to take advantage of it and meet up. My mom will be flying in from Tokyo. But boy, it took a lot of convincing to get my mom to come.. she just thinks Seattle's not exciting enough. I'm hoping to prove her wrong. I can't waiiiit! :)
